MUSICA CELEBRATES 20
YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE TRIANGLE AREA IN
2006 with a series of 4 concerts to benefit
the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra.
This organization, which provides 5 groups
for young musicians to develop their musical
and performing skills, has been devastated
by Hurricane Katrina.
The first concert was on July 30, “Cellos
and Friends Banding together” and
featured high school and college students
performing solos and ensembles. It raised
over $800.
The 2nd in the series is on Sat. Aug. 26th
on the Southern Village Green, Chapel Hill.
The acoustic fiddle band “The Friendly
Fiddlers” will be performing at 1pm.

The 3rd of the series is on Sunday, August
27 at 3:00pm at the Streets at Southpoint
Mall in Durham, NC. The Musica Chamber Orchestra
performs a varied program with selections
ranging from light classics to “Ashokan
Farewell”, and featuring some of the
players as soloists. The performance is
part of the Community Events Series sponsored
by the Streets at Southpoint, The events
are coordinated by Holley Johnson Inc.
The final concert of the series is on Sunday,
October 29th at 7:00pm at the University
Methodist Church, 150 E. Franklin St. Chapel
Hill. The Musica Chamber Orchestra will
accompany the church choir in Faure’s
Requiem, and perform instrumental works
by Vaughan Williams, Bruch and others.
These concerts are sponsored by the Triangle
Chamber Music Society which is a non-profit
501(c3) organization dedicated to promoting
chamber music playing by adults and young
people.
